The possibilities
in the beauty field are as many and varied as the individuals in
the field. It is truly an occupation in which you can create your
own path. Few fields offer the flexibility and potential rewards
of cosmetology. Cosmetologists and Barbers shampoo, cut and style
hair; they also perform a number of other services. They may perm
or straighten hair, darken or lighten hair color, give manicures,
pedicures, scalp and facial treatments, fit hairpieces, provide
hair and scalp treatments, makeup analysis and clean and style wigs.
Cosmetologists generally are licensed to provide all of the services
that barbers do except shaving men. Barbers in most states are licensed
to perform all the duties of a cosmetologist except skin care and
nail treatments
Annual salary
range is from $15,080-$32,000
It is expected
to grow about as fast as average for all occupations through the
year 2006.
All states require
barbers and cosmetologists to be licensed. Generally, a person must
have graduated from a state-licensed barber or cosmetology school
and passed a physical examination in order to be licensed.
